Phase 0: Gimmicks
Typical gimmick unlocks. No support expeditions used. Consider vanguard formation at A.
Node B2Typical gimmick unlocks. No support expeditions used. Consider vanguard formation at A.
Node B2Typical boss node, though somewhat inconsistent. Success really depended on Richelieu getting the French Touch off and clearing out a lot of the heavy hitters in the enemy fleet, as well as boss support (hopefully) taking out the Nu-class carrier.
No node support was used, but boss support was almost essential.
Boss supportA transport node. It's unlikely to get S-ranks, so plan TP for A-ranks. Using boss support is basically essential for even A-ranks, if you want the fleet to carry sufficient TP for a shorter phase. Still, A-ranks aren't guaranteed, and the submarines at H and the Ne-class at H2 can cause retreats.
Our fleet was set up for 78 TP on A-ranks, which probably took ~10-15 runs, including retreats. Note that Ooyodo is carrying two Shiuns for oodles of LoS; this protects against routing if a destroyer or two needs to be retreated after H or H2 with the striking force fleet command facility.
Another transport operation, this time with a combined transport fleet. This node was pretty easy to get S-ranks, but the pre-boss nodes could be dangerous. I found the OASW on Arare to be essential for success on node M; we tried a Toukai LBAS, but had mixed results. We found node support and one LBAS to M and P to make runs significantly more reliable. Other LBAS were sent to the boss.
S and V3 were done with the Freetown and Dakar fleets, respectively. V1, however, required a modified fleet with Kumano Maru for routing. We used a Toukai LBAS for node U, an LBAS for V1, and one for routing support. Getting A-ranks here wasn't particularly difficult.
Here we go! A straight-forward combat phase. Javelin's OASW was very helpful for increasing pass rate on U (or lessening damage). Otherwise, Janus and Javelin were set up for anti-imp duty. Not sure about necessity of the balloon on Jervis, however. Cut-in on Take, once again, didn't really do much in the end.
The boss was not particularly challenging, especially with Richelieu and Jean Bart (though the French touch didn't trigger particularly reliably). Ark and Vicky did very well, as well as Zuihou with historical planes. Ultimately, Sheffield brought the boss down to around 100 HP (from full) in night battle, with a cut-in from Jervis doing the rest of the job.
